We stayed in Naples for 6 days. We climbed Vesuvius, went underground to the lava-flooded catacombs and visited castles, museums and the ruins of Pompeii. The third largest Italian city is very different from Rome. Chaotic, cramped, overcrowded but history is visible on every corner.
We saw: Piazza Dante, Duomo Cathedral, Toledo Metro, Galeria Umberto, Piazza del Plebiscito, Margellina, Gaudioso and Gennaro Catacombs, Fontanelle Cemetery, Royal Palace, St Elmo and dell’Ovo Castle, Pouzolli: Macellum and Solfratara (volcanic field with sulphurous fumes at a temperature of 300°C), Archeological Museum, Pompeii and finally Mount Vesuvius (with a murderous climb to the top).
Supposedly the best pizza in the world, which originated in Naples, was very disappointing 🍕
